Biography
My journey into the vibrant world of radio and clubs began in 1978, fueled by a passion that led me to Bronx Community College. It was there, at their radio station WBCC, that I truly honed my craft. Within months, I ascended to the role of Program Director, a position that allowed me to curate music selections and shape the station’s sound. This experience also provided invaluable technical training, teaching me the precise art of cueing up records for seamless transitions. Beyond the airwaves, WBCC hosted lively parties, and I was a prominent DJ at these events, further developing my performance skills.
A pivotal moment arrived when two brothers offered me the opportunity to DJ at a new club in the Bronx called Fantasy Island, located on the Grand Concourse. Despite my lack of prior club experience, I eagerly accepted the challenge and, through an audition, secured the house DJ position. This immersive three-year stint provided me with invaluable hands-on experience. My next venture took me to Broadway International, a significantly larger venue. Here, I experienced the thrill of live performances by artists who had chart-topping hits, a truly eye-opening experience that deepened my understanding of the music industry. Playing four nights a week at Broadway International was a demanding yet rewarding period, where I learned immensely on the fly. As my career progressed, I collaborated with numerous promoters, gracing many clubs across the city with my DJ sets.
The digital age brought a new chapter when, around 2004, I connected with Maurice Watts at WHCR 90.3FM, City College’s radio station. His show, “The Love Zone,” became a regular stop for me. One evening, Maurice invited me to perform a short set, which led to a consistent return. He then offered me a co-host position, an invitation I enthusiastically accepted. To this day, I continue to share the airwaves with Maurice on “The Love Zone.”
In October 2006, Maurice promised me that he would take to places I’ve never been before. This dream came true when we were invited to England to play at Sam Roberts birthday party. The listeners and fans over there loved us so much that they almost didn’t let us return to the United States. Upon returning to the states, we end our 2006 tour with shows through Georgia and into Mississippi before returning to New York City.
In 2007, I was honored to be a featured DJ at Maurice’s 25th Radio Anniversary celebration in the Poconos. This event has since grown into a significant annual gathering in Pennsylvania, and I remain a proud and primary DJ, contributing to its enduring success. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many prominent promoters and established DJs, experiences that I deeply cherish.
